Safe to give dogs bones, epically to small dog breeds?
Okie i have two small dogs, a peakiness and a pug, i was alweays told you copuldnt give small dogs bones but my grandparents who also have a small dog breed, a palmaranian, and give her boens all time. I an’t sure but I figure I ask to make sure, is it same to give bones to small breed dogs? It be stake bones and a few chicken leg bones. Safe to give or not?
yes, Yes, YES!!!! As long as they are RAW. Smaller dogs have notoriously bad teeth so it is vital to look after them.
ALL dogs need bones as an essential source of accessible calcium and to keep their teeth and gums healthy. Think of the bones as a meal rather than a treat and make sure that the bone is really meaty. The meat acts like dental floss and cleans between the teeth and massages the gums while the edible bone scrapes the teeth clean.
A perfect size for your dogs would be a chicken drumstick. You may need to shred or slice the meat to get them started but once they get the hang of it they’ll be fine.
