What are the best and most beautiful dogs hypoallergenic?

My mom is allergic to dogs, but I want a dog so bad! Must be a dog that is relatively easy to train. I do not know how easy it would be to take care of a yorkshire terrier or a cute dog like that.

For people which states that no dog is hypoallergenic, does not realize what the word means? It does not mean that the dog will not cause allergies, just less likely, hence hypoallergenic title. It seems that the hatred of "designer" breeds people do everything possible to stop everything involved with this type of races even it means giving misinformation. To the OP, poodles tend to be hypoallergenic and have heard that Soft-Coated Wheaton Terrier are. I think the AKC has a list of hypoallergenic dogs, or is there a list of others floating around the Internet somewhere. Take a look at that and can make a decision from there.

These are some factors that should be first considered in buying your dog food. The first step is to determine what your dog needs then you should also know what is in the dog food and what will it give your dog. Not all dog food ingredients are useful and good to him. In order to increase the bulk, others even use ingredients that are harmful for your dog. So how would you know if the dog food you’re holding is good for your dog? I will give you a list of some dog food ingredients.

• Animal meat – the clean fresh meat of a slaughtered animal.
• Animal by-product – Any by-product means that it comes from a slaughtered or euthanized animal that is not good for human consumption. It may not be good in the sense that since it is euthanized, it can contain many chemicals that can be detrimental for your dog.
• Animal meal – is also the same as by product but this one has been processed. It could be boiled down, pulverized and was renamed as meal for animals.

• Yeast – This can cause allergic reaction to dogs.
• Corn bran – acts as an extender. Dogs will have a problem digesting this so it is not advisable to feed them large amounts of this substance.
• Copper – a trace mineral that enhances the absorption of iron.
• Peas and carrots – gives your dogs vitamins and minerals. It can also add flavour to your dog’s food.
• Gingko Biloba – It can be very useful for the older dogs because it improves blood flow which helps mental and memory functions.
• Probiotics – these are the heat-sensitive members of our normal flora. They can help the body digest foods.
• Sodium Bentonite – this is used as a binder for dog foods. It is said that this substance aids in the animal’s digestive system.

Preservatives in dog food

BHA/BHT, or Butylated Hydroxyanisole (BHA) and Butylated Hydroxytoluene (BHT) are chemical preservatives that is use to keep fats away from rancidity. This can result to dry skin, dental disease, kidney and liver destruction.

Ethoxyquin – Many suspect that this can cause cause cancer, liver, kidney and thyroid dysfunctions, reproductive failure. However there still no evidence found that this is true.

Tocopherols – Since they are natural, these preservatives are more advisable to use than other chemical preservatives. However, they have shorter shelf life.

It is important to note that some manufacturers practice splitting, they cover up other ingredients by dividing the content into categories, making it a smaller quantity, so they can list the meat first. This will make it seem that the dog foods contain many protein. Also, take note of the by-products as they can be very harmful for your dog.

Upon reading articles and websites about the Livestock Guardian Dog, I was impressed by how lonely and courageous these dogs are, yet they have been guarding flocks for centuries.

The puppies are taken from their environment at four weeks of age and placed with a flock of sheep so that they can be imprinted upon them. There they are left. The Shepherd, or Handler brings them food and water, and arranges a place of safety in case they are bothered by the flock. Their success as a Guardian Dog is based on this imprinting, and upon their innate instincts of: Attentiveness-to watch for threats from predators, Trustworthiness-to remain with the flock, and Protectiveness-to drive off predators by barking. The training period (4-14 weeks), can last up to two years, and with certain breeds up to four. If the flock is large, then two, three, or four dogs are used, but each have a different function. One is embedded, the others walk the perimeter.

The origin of the practice of using Guardian Dogs goes back in time many thousands of years. Illustrations of these dogs show up on Babylonian and Assyrian (Nineveh) artifacts. For centuries Bedouins all across Europe and Asia worked these dogs with their flocks as they travelled. These shepherds developed their breeds according to their needs. Mountain dogs required heavy, double coats for winter guarding. With threatening predators, such as coyotes, wolves, mountain lions, feral dogs, bears, lynx, and such, the dogs needed to be large and strong to protect the sheep, or to frighten away predators. Lighter dogs, and less coated, were developed for desert areas.

Each country has its own unique breed, for example, white dogs for white sheep, and colored or dark dogs for dark sheep or cattle. Only a few of the breeds are known to us in North America, and even less acknowledged.

Turkey: The Anatolian Shepherd (brown). It was used also in Africa against Cheetahs.

Bulgaria has the Karakatchan (mixed colors), Greece, the Hellenic Sheepdog (various colors), a little smaller. Armenia has the Armenian Gasmpr (brown), and Afghanistan, the Sage Korchil (brown), plus other dogs I have not named.

The Livestock Guardian Dog is not a pet-too big for a family with small children; their size could harm a child. The breeds are too reserved and territorial, although in Europe they have always been loyal to family members when guarding farms and properties. They average in height to the shoulder, is 29-30 inches, females somewhat smaller. Their average weight is 125 pounds, females less, but for the Spanish Mastiff, as noted. Some of the breeds are used in North America by farmers and ranchers. Some have used donkeys, or llamas for guarding flocks or cattle, but science proves the dogs most effective.

Courageous, brave, the Livestock Guardian Dogs have survived wars across the years, but the breeds have bred true. As a former breeder of pet dogs, I cannot but feel torn for the puppies of the world who must undergo such rigorous training. Take a look at them. They are big, cuddly dogs, but they cannot be cuddled, cannot be pets. All of this is sacrificed for their work. They can if they land in North America, but the majority of these dogs are in Europe still, in mountainous areas, basically alone, guarding sheep.

Administering medicine to your dog can be tricky. Like many humans, dogs generally do not enjoy taking their medication. Here are a few tips and techniques to help you painlessly administer medicine to your dog.

Like a good physician, adopt a pleasant bedside manner. Administer any medicine properly and positively. Always stay calm and affirming as it’s important for your dog to view this experience as something positive. It’s never safe for you to approach your dog aggressively. This will not result in a good experience for your dog and may even lead to hostility when administering medication in the future.

For oral medications

You can hide and/or crush and mix medication in food, have your dog’s medication compounded into liquid or get medication in ointment form.

To hide a pill in food

Choose a food that strong tasting, malleable (peanut butter, cream cheese). Serve your dog several different tastings of food so that they may not notice which sample holds the medication. With the medication buried and hidden inside the food, make sure to reward your dog for eating his/her “treat.”

To crush a pill in food

Before ever crushing medication for your pet’s food, consult your veterinarian as some medications should not be crushed.

Getting your dog’s medication in liquid and/or ointment form

Should your dog not accept medication hidden or crushed in food, ask your veterinarian about a flavored liquid alternative. If your pet doesn’t accept liquid medications, you can check with your veterinarian to see if medication can be made into a form that is rubbed directly onto the skin, which is called transdermal dog medication.

For eye drops or ointment

Make sure to hold your dog securely and if you can’t do this alone, ask someone to secure your dog while applying medication. It is most beneficial if your dog sits or is lying down. Next, clean your dog’s eye area before applying medication. Open your dog’s eye by gently placing your hand on top of your dog’s head, holding the upper eyelid open. Hold the medication at an angle above the eye and put the appropriate amount of medication into the eye. Be extra careful not to touch the eyeball directly. When finished applying your dog’s eye drops or ointment, allow your dog a moment to shut the eye and then massage gently.

For ear drops

Again be sure you hold your dog securely or seek help if needed. Always communicate with your dog in a stress-free and calming way. Gently clean your dog’s ear passage with cotton and then put the ear dropper slightly outside his or her ear canal. Be sure to not to insert the medication to far into your dog’s ear.

For subcutaneous injections

Subcutaneous injections takes expertise, so be sure to follow your veterinarian’s instructions after training. You will need a bag of room-temperature solution cooled in warm water, IV tubing and needles, and rubbing alcohol. Make sure to wash your hands thoroughly.

Remove the port of the solution bag, usually located towards the bottom of the bag where you will connect the IV line. Next, connect the IV tubing to the bag of solution. Locate the clamp on the IV tubing and fasten the IV line to bag of solution. Now join the tubing to the solution and IV line.

The IV line, which is now connected to the solution bag, will allow you to monitor the flow of fluid. To assure the safe, steady flow of liquid, you can partially fill the tubing reservoir with liquid, which avoids air bubbles. Remove the needle without removing the needle cap. Put the needle on the end of the IV line and secure. Now, uncap the needle and loosen the clamp. Make sure the clamp is secure and recap the needle.

With alcohol, clean at the injection area, usually between the shoulders. Trim the hair around this area if necessary. Take the extra skin, uncap the needle fully into the skin and inject your dog’s medication promptly. Once you have injected your dog’s medication, put your finger on top of the needle, holding it in place where the needle enters the skin. Slowly open the clamp to the IV and let the liquid flow. Hold the needle into place and monitor the flow.

After administering your dog’s prescribed medication, clamp the IV tubing and remove the needle. Apply pressure to the injection area with alcohol to disinfect the area and prevent bleeding. You will notice a pouch of fluid under your dog’ skin and will slowly dissolve. If the bubble does not dissolve to some degree, contact your veterinarian immediately.

Administering medicine can be simple, fast and pain-free when you know how.

Working dogs?

I need help finding information how work is good or bad for a dog? As in the ways that having a job to do affects behavior and psycology and such for the dog, anyone know of a website or something I can look up?
To be more specific, I have to try to convince someone about the merrits of giving a dog a job to do, rather than let it laze about on the couch all day. The actual job is not the point, its the benefits of having the job for the dog that I have to showcase. I need a website or article for good reference sources.

A working dog can do many things… mine are trained in tracking, agility and obedience then also protection. It is called the sport of Schutzhund. A Schutzhund title is what most police dogs will have… then a little more intense training after that.

Obedience Training

Obedience training is the first step. Start with the basic commands such as sit, stay and heel. This is the time to form a link with your dog by using the goodness and discipline to teach how to respond to you. Give praise when he obeys his orders and discipline him when he, but never mean to his dog. It takes time to learn what to do and it deserves praise a positive response.
