To be certain of taking good pictures it will help to know a few simple rules.

Distance

Getting close to your dog will fill the frame. Remember your dog has facial expressions that need to be captured.

Angle

Do not take the picture from above. Crouch down to dog level. This gives a more intimate view of your pet.

Color

Keep it simple. However, props can add interest. For example, introduce a favorite toy such as a ball.

Lighting

Easy – press auto. Take care as too much bright light can dim those exceptional features.

Patience

Getting the right pictures will take some patience. (Easy for a dog lover)

Lots

Be prepared to take lots of pictures. Try different angles, stances and behavior.

Komondor???

I’m thinking of getting a komondor in a few years becuase my dog is getting older and my husband has a new puppy, i know they are herding dogs and i am experienced in dealing with high energy dogs but i’m not sure about the upkeep. if anyone has a komondor or even a puli i would love some input on grooming and also the temperment of the breed. i’ve never seen one in person so i’m not 100% sure what kind of behavior to expect or how much energy to expect.

I have known both breeds to a small extent, Puli moreso. You may want to go to area dog shows and meet up with several of them before making a decision on them. The grooming is, of course, pretty much a big deal, particularly if you get one from a pup. Usually the breeder will give the coat a start and will help a lot in learning how to deal with it but I wouldn’t just figure on it taking care of itself too much while it is cording and even after it is a mature coat. I can’t say that I was terribly impressed with the temperaments on the representatives I met of either breed but then everyone had different things they like about dogs so it is not likely that you and I would have the same desires as to a dog. Meeting as many as you can and getting to know the breed a bit would actually be your best bet. Given you aren’t in a big rush, maybe find where their parent club’s national shows are being held this year and see if there is any way to get to them — the nationals of any parent club is usually the premier show of the breed and there are usually lots of representatives of the breed in various venues and lots of breeders and fanciers of the breed to learn from.

So many times people call a Pomeranian “A Tea Cup” the ads are about selling you on a dog that will be small. The truth of the matter is that all Pomeranians at one time in there life weight 2.5 lbs..

My wife and I have worked on the AKC standards of 5 to 7 lbs. in our breeding program.

Anytime someone tells you that the dog is going to be a “TEA CUP” they may be trying to sell you on a dog that is NOT TO STANDARDS.

The words “TEA CUP Pomeranian” are a total BS statement, check out AKC.org.

I love it when someone ask how much the puppy will weigh when it is mature. My normal reply is “do you know how tall and what your kid will weigh at 18?”

The smaller the dog’s have more health issues.

I gave my parents a dog that my wife wanted to keep.

The dog’s name is Coco and the dog has cost my parents over $8000.00 in vet bills because of hip problems.

Coco is only 3.5 lbs and she is 4 years old. She is the smallest dog we have on record. My Point is small dogs can cost you large vet bills.

So 2.5lbs can equate to 2.5 lbs X 8 vet trips X$100 each trip X 2 referrals @ $400.00 each.

Where in the world can I find a Pyrenean Shepherd (Berger des Pyrenees) puppy?

I’ve fallen in love with this particular breed given what I’ve read about it, but it seems next to impossible to find. I live in the UK and, although there is a breed club, I still have not found any active breeders. if this is the breed of dog that you have decided upon, start talking to people within the breed club. ask questions. they will know where to get them, how to train them, and they also may be able to help you decide if that breed is really right for you. Best of luck. chances are that that breed of dog is very primitive, and may need A LOT of socialization and training. I feel that contacting the breed club would be your best option.

The Good of Shiba Inus -

1. A Shiba Inu is a beautiful, spitz dog. You will get many compliments and turn many heads while walking next to a Shiba. Get used to hearing, “He/She looks just like a FOX!”. In fact, it is this foxy look that often gets Shibas into trouble. Many people fall in love with his look but are not equipped to handle his larger than life personality.

2. A Shiba Inu is a dog that is more like a cat. Shibas are independent and clean. My Shiba spends a fair amount of time not just grooming himself, but also helping to groom my Siberian Husky. Shibas are extremely easy to housebreak. My Shiba was housetrained when we got him at 10 weeks old.

3. A Shiba Inu is a good watch dog. Shibas do not bark much; but when there are strange people or strange noises around the house they will bark to alert you.

4. A Shiba Inu is graceful and agile. Shibas can leap tall fences in a single bound and can scale walls like Spiderman. They are great hiking buddies, and can easily learn and conquer an agility course. A Shiba running is a sight to behold and a Shiba at play is poetry in motion.

5. A Shiba Inu is extremely intelligent. Shibas can learn many commands and they can learn them very quickly. Shibas can also quickly figure out complex interactive toys and puzzles.

6. A Shiba Inu is small in body but has an enormous personality. My Shiba always surprises me, makes me laugh, challenges me, and keeps me on my toes.

The Bad of Shiba Inus -

1. A Shiba Inu is bold, strong willed, and stubborn. Shibas have a “Never give up, Never surrender” attitude. They will not back down from a challenge and will often fight back when they perceive a threat. Because of this, many owners face aggression issues with their Shiba, including resource guarding, dog aggression, and people aggression. To successfully live with a Shiba, you must be extremely patient and have a good sense of humor. Work with a Shiba’s innate personality and use it motivate him in the right direction. Reward based techniques work best with Shibas.

A Shiba will hand you many lemons, which is good if you like lemonade. Otherwise, just cut one up and squirt it on his muzzle. ~~ [ just a joke! ]

2. A Shiba Inu has a sly, roguish, kind of intelligence. Shibas will do whatever they want if they can get away with it. If they can’t get away with it, they will figure out another way to get away with it. When they are caught with their nose in the cookie jar, they will give you the innocent “what did I do?” look and then come over and lick your hand. Once you turn your back, they are back in the cookie jar.

3. A Shiba Inu is like the evil, black, Spiderman. Shibas are capable of great feats of agility but if untrained, they will use it to destroy and cause great havoc in the household. If bored and lonely, they will escape by jumping over or burrowing under your fence. They can squeeze through small holes, bite through leashes, and achieve amazing great escapes that will make Houdini proud.

4. A Shiba Inu is a drama queen. Shibas will whine, mope and act like it is the end of the world when they are hurt or think that they are hurt. My Shiba acts like he is close to death’s door even for small things like getting grass stuck between his teeth. Woe be to you, woe be to your vet, and woe be to anyone who tries to help. Shibas are extremely touchy when in this state, and may snap and bite at anyone who comes near them.

5. A Shiba Inu is an accomplished singer. Shibas don’t bark much but they have a wide range of vocal stylings. The most well known is the Shiba-scream, which is a high pitched, loud scream that will make your blood curdle and make your neighbors call 9-1-1. Shibas will quickly learn to use this scream against you if you let them.

6. A Shiba Inu knows that he is royalty. Shibas want their subjects close enough to serve them but not too close as to sully their royal persons. As a result, handling a Shiba (e.g. cutting nails, bathing, or a vet examination) can be tough work.

7. A Shiba Inu pretends not to understand the word “obedience”. Shibas think that you should be obedient to them, not the other way around. If you want them to do something for you, you had better make them a good offer.

A Shiba Inu has very large teeth and he is not afraid to use them. The Shiba Inu breed is a primitive breed. As a result, Shibas tend to be more mouthy, and may lose control more easily, compared to other more domesticated breeds.
