Overview

It is only for 70 years now that the Cardigan Welsh Corgi and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi have been regarded as separate breeds. There are several theories about the origin of the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, and many believe that both Corgi breeds are related to the Swedish Vallhunds. These dogs have been brought to Wales by the Vikings during the 800s. Another premise is that the Cardigan Welsh Corgi is the older of the two Corgi breeds, and that the Celts brought them to Wales in about 1200 BC. The name “Corgi” is derived from the word “dog” in Celtic. The Corgi has many natural talents that include herding, hunting, and guarding. Seeing that these dogs are fairly low, they manage to move out of the way whenever a cow kicked. These days the Cardigan Welsh Corgi is primarily a companion dog.

Temperament

Cardigan Welsh Corgis are affectionate and caring dogs, and they also possess a high degree of intelligence. They have an open and gentle nature, but they do have a tendency to nip at heels. But because they are so intelligent, they are a pleasure to train. The Cardigan Welsh Corgi will work well for experienced and inexperienced owners. This breed is very brave, and they have lots of energy. Corgis are also very keen, willing and enthusiastic. Cardigan Welsh Corgis is spontaneous but also obedient, and they have a mind of their own.

Care

These dogs should be brushed with a firm hair brush when it is necessary, and they do not have very high maintenance requirements. Corgis should not be bathed excessively, and only when it is deemed necessary. It is important that the Cardigan Welsch Corgi is not fed too much.

Training

In general, the Caridgan Welsch Corgi will get along well with other dogs, but they can however be aggressive at times. Sometimes the Corgis will take on situation that are too big for them too handle, and this often results in them loosing their lives. These dogs also try to herd people by nipping at their heels, but they can be trained to stop doing this. Cardigan Welsch Corgis are good at making alarm, but they can however bark excessively. It is also very common for the males Corgis to be aggressive toward other male dogs, especially when a bitch in the neighbourhood is on heat.

Health problems

The Cardigan Welsh Corgi is a particularly healthy breed, especially when compared to other dogs. Hip dysplasia is a likely condition, and so are mild eye problems when they get older. The most dangerous health problems these dogs struggle with are degenerative myelopathy, which is a spinal problem that is mostly found in the German Shepherds.

siberian husky?

I really like Siberian husky breed. how much do you think one will cost me?

It is not enough to just like the breed you have to be well educated on it. I suggest to get some books and do research on Siberian huskies. they are a beautiful breed but it is not enough just to like them. huskies are not a dog for everyone. if you get one now without properly educating yourself on the breed and then realize that it isn’t a match for you, you will be contributing to the over population of dogs in the shelters especially huskies. The Rhodesian Ridgeback is a breed that no one seems to know how to classify. In some countries this breed is considered a member of the Working Group. In other countries he has been placed in the Hound category. In still others he is a classified as a Gun Dog. Historically, the breed performed all of these duties in its native land. The original country of origin of this dog is Africa. The Ridgeback in Africa was used by the natives to harass the lions on a hunt, being quick and agile and making feints at the lion, distracting him while the natives came in for the kill.

The name “Ridgeback” is because of the very distinct line which is created down the center of the back where the hairs lie in opposite direction from the “lay” of the coat, creating a ridge which is obvious and unique to the breed. Only one other breed, the Thai Ridgeback, carries this “trademark”. The ridge should have two swirls of hair at the top of the ridge, creating the appearance of a crown.

The Ridgeback does not enjoy great popularity as a pet. It is strongly independent. This dog happily fulfils the roles of both a guard dog and a hunting dog, but it will do exactly what it wants to do if the owner is not the “leader of the pack”. They are not overly affectionate and do not make friends with strangers. They should not show aggression, but will not fawn over people nor be overly affectionate except to their own household.

The color of the Rhodesian Ridgeback is always a deep red or fawn. White markings, if any, should be small, on the toes or the chest. Males should be 25-27 inches and females 24-25 inches. The “ridge” is of course the identifying characteristic of the breed and must be present and quite obvious. The Ridgeback should move with a long stride and should have good angulation in the rear, he should be agile and able to make quick turns, being of good length of leg for the feinting and quick strikes necessary when on the hunt. The dog’s overall appearance should be that of a well muscled and athletic dog.

The Rhodesian Ridgeback will thrive on country living and makes a protective and fearless guardian of the property. It should never show aggression towards people and this is not part of its nature. This is a dog that should show protective instincts of its territory and should ward off marauding animals. It is fine to have in an urban household if given plenty of exercise. In either case, the Rhodesian Ridgeback needs to have good obedience training as a puppy. they are an energetic and inquisitive breed and can get into a lot of trouble if not kept in a safe fenced in area.
