Dalmatians are loving, friendly dogs who have an enormous amount of energy. They are intelligent and athletic. Although normally good with children, without the proper daily exercise they can become too energetic for a family with small children.

Dalmatians need strong, firm leadership and a great deal of attention. Owners must make their position in the pack abundantly clear and never let the Dalmatian think that he is in control. Dalmatians are social animals and will not be content to be on their own for long periods of time. When properly trained, Dalmatians are exceptionally obedient and make wonderful watch and guard dogs. Here are some training tips to get you started.

Acquiring an animal’s admiration and assurance is the initial phase towards effectively training him. Setting this groundwork is particularly significant when training a dog. If a dog cannot distinguish a pack leader, then he assumes the position as leader.

By establishing yourself as the pack leader your dog will look to you for guidance and approval. Until your dog has grown to trust and respect you, it will be hard for any training course to be successful. Earning a dog’s loyalty is best done progressively by interacting with him in a regular and fair approach. As soon as the dog has learned to have confidence in and respect you, he or she may be shocked at how fast the teaching sessions develop.

Most new dog owners misconstrue adoration and affection for trust and respect. Being affectionate to your dog can either help building respect or it can challenge it. While a puppy can play the adorable card to get almost anything that it wants, it is a big misstep to get started this way. It is imperative, nonetheless, to set boundaries, and to establish agreeable and intolerable behaviors.

Dogs in fact welcome these types of limitations, because they are comparable to the system that the pack leader sets up in nature. In a natural setting each dog knows his place in the pack, and he knows what his job is.

Good luck training your new Dalmatian puppy!

Hi,

The active Samoyed is not suited to apartment or condo life. A home with a large, securely fenced yard is the best choice. Here’s more info:

I don’t know if this is true, but I heard that in the wild, when cats fight and one is on the ground with their belly up, the other cat will dig it’s claws in their stomach. Maybe when we pet them on the belly, they think that we’re trying to hurt them. Dogs, on the other hand, must not fight like that.

People care about their pets and they are increasingly concerned about their health. According to the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association, about 63 percent of American households have a pet. These pet owners were expected to spend a whopping $45.5 billion on their pets in 2009, which is twice what they spent a decade ago.

With that kind of investment in their pets, it’s smart to try to keep them healthy by providing them with some over-the-counter pet medications and healthcare products.

- Clenz-A-Dent PlaqueOff is a food additive for cats and dogs that improves their oral hygiene. While many people do not brush their pet’s teeth, they can sprinkle this seaweed (ascophyllum nodosum) on their pet’s wet or dry food once a day to fight plaque and tartar and freshen their breath. It takes from three to eight weeks to see some improvement. A jar of PlaqueOff will last about eight months for a dog weighing less than 20 pounds or a cat; about four months for a dog between 20 and 50 pounds, and two months for a dog over 50 pounds.

- Arthogen is a chewable oral glucosamine/chondroitin supplement to keep your dog’s joints healthy. It can also be used to treat osteoarthritis or other painful conditions. The chewable tablets contain 500 milligrams of glucosamine, 400 milligrams of chondroitin sulfate, 33 milligrams of vitamin C and 5 milligrams of manganese. It can take four to six weeks to see any improvement, but once the maximum improvement is reached, you can put the dog on a maintenance schedule.

- Forti Flora is a nutritional supplement you can give your dog or cat to treat diarrhea. Both formulas (one for cats and one for dogs) contain a probiotic that promotes normal intestinal microflora and a normal immune system. Each contains high levels of antioxidant vitamins A, E and C. It can treat diarrhea brought on by stressful situations (such as a new home or being boarded), a change in diet, eating something inappropriate or antibiotic therapy.

- For the opposite effect, give Vetasyl to reduce constipation in dogs and cats. This natural fiber is highly palatable and easy to administer. Made of husks and barley malt, Vetasyl is also recommended as a natural dietary fiber for cats. Cotents of the capsules are sprinkled on the pet’s food.

- Anxitane (L-Theanine) Chewable Tablets for dogs and cats is an over-the-counter medication to reduce signs of nervousness, anxiety or responses to stress. The stressor may be humans or noises.

- LickGuard can be used when your pet won’t stop licking an area of his body. This all-natural, unpleasant tasting ointment aims to discourage licking that can irritate the skin or break open suture lines.

- If your elderly dog or cat is showing signs of senility, you may want to consider Senilife in order to improve the quality of life. This nutritional supplement helps elderly pets overcome confusion, depression, dysthymia, overly aggressiveness, anxiety and other phobic states. This pill is given once a day for one to two months. It is suggested you contact your veterinarian if you want to continue treatment beyond two months.

- For pets that suffer from acute ear infections due to bacterial and yeast infections, try a once-a-day ear drop treatment called Zymox Otic. You should not pre-clean or clean the pet’s ear while using Zymox Otic as this can disrupt the biological system and the treatment may not work. It also should not be used along with other topical ear treatments. Zymox Otic contains natural bio-active enzymes and can be used for extended times or preventatively.

- Cat Lax is an oral formula containing Cod liver oil, vitamins and other ingredients to eliminate and prevent the development of hair balls in cats. Many cats like the flavor of Cat Lax, but if yours does not, squeeze about a half-inch of Cat Lax from the tube and place it on your cat’s paw (assuming a normal sized, adult cat). He will ingest it while cleaning his paw and become accustomed to the taste. Use it once a day to treat hairballs and just two to three times a week to prevent them.

- Protect your dog or cat from fleas, ticks and lice by shampooing them with Adams Flea & Tick Shampoo. It will quickly kill the pests while it cleans and deodorizes the pet’s coat. It can be used on puppies and kittens 12 weeks or older.

- If your dog seems to be shedding more than usual, consider using FURminator de Shedding Shampoo. Its vitamins, proteins and Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids protect against excess shedding.

Although these medications are available without a prescription, it is always wise to discuss them with the pet’s veterinarian.

The old adage that “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks” has given older dogs a bad rap for years, and it is entirely untrue. Of course, like people, older dogs have some habits and customs that may take some time to work out, but they can certainly still learn. Adult dogs are often overlooked when people are searching for dogs for sale. Instead, most people are only looking for puppies for sale, while there are some really great advantages to adopting an adult dog, which many people fail to consider.

Of course everyone loves puppies, which is why puppies for sale move so quickly, whether that be from shelters, rescues, or online petfinder resources. Those cute little bundles of joy are just irresistible, but what many adopting parents forget to consider, is the fact that this stage will only last a number of months before the puppy becomes an adolescent. Adolescence is that experimental high-energy stage that causes many dogs to find themselves up for adoption, because the patience of many dog owners is tested too far. If you do not have the time, energy, and patience to train an adolescent dog, then a puppy might not be the best scenario for you.

There are an abundance of adult dogs that have difficulty finding new homes. Some people think that adult dogs for adoption must have some type of behavior disorder, which is also untrue. Yes, some dogs may have a difficult behavior issue, but the majority of dogs in this situation were put there by irresponsible ownership. Perhaps the owner just didn’t have time any more, or there was a divorce, new child, or relocation. There are so many reasons people get rid of their dogs. Any pet will take some time and effort, but older dogs usually have better attention spans as well as bladder control. With older dogs, training should be fun, while firm and fair. As long as the training is consistent and frequent, they will have no problem catching.

Another great thing about looking for adult dogs for sale is that you already know how big they are, what their coat is like, and some of their breed personality. There are simply fewer unknowns, and depending on your special living circumstances and family situation, this might be the best way to find the perfect K9 companion. There are so many older dogs that need good home, and adopting one is something to think about.

There are rescues that specialize in purebreds and rare mixes. Do a search in your area for a rescue or shelter, contact them and go look. I’m sure you will find a pup suited to you. Thank you for adopting!!!

Is it healthy for dogs and cats treated the same?

My son told me tonight my head mixed up animals. You do not know whether they are people cats, Dogs. That if they would infringe on their own out there have ever received. (Well Duh, but I knew where he go with his thoughts), you would not To understand other cats they would hurt so on. And mentally, they had no idea what they were. I have taught the tricks dogs and cats tricks. It is really funny watched a cat rolling on its back and pretend die.You not see quite often. They sleep together and clean each other, sleeping on the back of the couch if they want. (Dogs) and birds seen sitting in the window. I have two cats, the lines are for walking. They wanted to come so I took them with me. So, you think it is bad for them? Do you think they care? I do not think they care if they are a people dog, a cat or. Really, there may be some little show, me on a website, it is not treated well, they have the same shows.

Studies show you have to replace that human companions, pets do mothers. They call it subsitute families (or step-families, which always works). So if this is a situation that you all feel happy to be proud of your children and tell your son that he needs to be nice to his brothers and sisters!
