Why do people love dogs better than any other pets?

I mean, why? Dogs can be cute but some of them are ugly, not very smart, they poop and piss everywhere and a dog poo is not pleasing to your eyes and your shoes. They are noisy and smelly. Don’t kid yourself thinking they’d understand you when they stare at you with their big gleaming eyes because they don’t, they just want their meal and go out for a run.
Some people love their dogs so much that they equate them with people or worse yet, put their dogs before their kids, spouses or friends.

Why don’t people worship cats/fish/birds/ in this extent?
What makes dogs so special that they are preferred over other animals, and over people sometimes (I think the latter is a crime, because it is unnatural to abandon your own species, figuratively speaking)?

I just don’t get it! Please help me understand! Thanks.

Dogs get a lot of attention, because they are one of the oldest known pets. However dogs are over hyped. what is the best pet can only be determined by the owner, like for me it is my pet monkey. Dogs are like cars some people can’t live without them however if they had to they could make due without them.

How can I stop my dog from begging at the table? Anyone who owns a pet has had this problem. All dog owners know how hard it is to resist those big old eyes and wagging tail. ” Just 1 table scrap.. please” they seem to be saying. Although it’s cute, this is one canine problem that can become a major headache- if not taken care of quickly.

Here are 3 tips that can make mealtime more pleasant for you and your family or guests:

1) Pay no attention to the begging. Overlook it altogether, and do it consistently-at every meal. Make sure all family members and guests abide by this rule.

2) Feed your dog before you sit down to your meal. With a full tummy, Fido is less likely to beg for your food.

3) Compensate your dog for a job well done. After the meal, if Marmaduke has been a “good dog” and behaved himself, let him have a few table scraps. Make sure you put the food directly into his dog dish and don’t feed him right from the table.

Depending on your pooch- some dogs take a little longer than others- this type of behavior modification can work wonders. Just remember, that everything takes time and this won’t happen overnight. Exercise patience and give Spike plenty of love along the way. Before you know it, he’ll be waiting for his table scraps over by his dog dish and probably thinking he’s done a pretty good job of training you!

How to stop dogs fighting over food?

I have 2 dogs.
Dog A is 9 months, always had biscuits down for him and ate only when he was hungry.
Dog B is 10 weeks, and is always hungry!

If I feed them seperately, Dog A doesn’t eat because he wants to leave it til he’s hungry. Dog B scoffs as usual.

If I feed them together, they both want what the other is eating, and Dog A will growl and snap at Dog B. Dog A gives up after a while and Dog B eats more than his share.

Help??!?!

“If I feed them seperately, Dog A doesn’t eat because he wants to leave it til he’s hungry. Dog B scoffs as usual.”

Feed separately and the minute the dog walks away pick up the bowl and feed nothing until the next meal. A healthy dog will not starve himself and he will learn that if he wants to eat he has to get it when he can.

Summer is here and going strong. With the heat of summer is the traditional way of escape from the heat, not only for humans but also for their friends four legs as well. This includes trips to the beach and the local lakes and rivers and hour after hour of swimming for those lucky enough to have a pool.

Beaches, shores of lakes and rivers are beautiful ways to access the cold water, refreshing, but may present certain hazards not only for people with bare feet, but dogs with bare feet, too. pads of a dog can tolerate hot sand probably a little better than a bare foot man, but can still be very uncomfortable for a puppy. There are also shells and broken pieces of glass shattered on the beach occasionally can cut your books or get between them and cut the foot. Lake and rivers are often very rocky and can be annoying and cause foot safe for dogs.

How can we protect our dogs from these dangers summer legs? Of the same way we protect our own feet – with the shoes as water dog boots. Manufacturers of dog wear leg "as Neopaws make boots breathable nylon mesh with a good solid rubber outsole. Boots of this type are large, not only for hiking and trail running, but for beach activities, lakes and rocky streams. When your dog is using these boots, protective plants have the legs from getting too hot on the beach or even the sidewalks and pavement. Also leave broken glass, shells and sharp rocks cutting or polishing of the legs. They can be used right on the water because they're made of a mesh.

When your dog is swimming laps in his pool, his legs are probably safe. However, the lining of your pool may not be as safe from the claws sharp as your dog climbs your way out of the pool. Pool shoes Neopaws dog can be used in the pool too. But for a lighter boot dog pool is perfect for the combination dogs and pools, you can try Pawz disposable dog booties. These practices Shoes Water Dog are made of rubber and can be thrown at the first signs of wear. Next time, just pull the other figure on the package. These boots pool walk the dog of your dog like a comfortable pair of socks, too, and provide a full range of motion.

To keep your dog safe and healthy legs throughout the summer fun, choose water dog boots or Neopaws Pawz. They are the ideal way to protect Fido's feet from heat and sharp objects, not mention the protection of the sides of your pool and even the seats of your boat.

Why do you think some dogs notice other dogs on TV and some don’t?

My sister’s dog, a cockapoo, goes insane when he sees another dog on the television. It is impossible to watch Animal Planet or a dog show without him barking at the TV. My dog, a chihuahua, on the other hand, never notices, even if you hold him up to the TV. He’ll sometimes react to a dog barking, but never just to the image. Just wondering what yall think and if your dogs do the same. Also, you think that means my dog is smarter? Haha, thats what I say at least!

I think it’s more of what interests the dog and what doesn’t. Just like how some people think it’s cool to watch the ocean and others think it’s boring.

boxer / pit bull attacked my dog. Have you had trouble with these breeds and your dogs?

Yesterday at the dog park in Long Beach, CA a boxer/pitbull mix attacked my dog and bit him. This dog that attacked was in a large group of dogs that was in the dog park illegally since you are only supposed to be with one dog per person. The animal control told me to call them whenever there are groups of dogs with one person. Every single time they are there though. I probably won’t be going there any time soon. Anyone else have problems with bigger aggressive dogs like pit bulls attacking your dogs? Recently a dog was mauled there by 2 pit bulls, and the dog beach in Long Beach in January, a chihuahua was killed by 2 pit bulls. I have a friend that has the sweetest female pit that I can have my small Shiba Inu dog around.
The dog care walker said it was a boxer/pit mix and she quickly placed it in a time out fenced area.

It’s not the breed, but the irresponsible owner that’s the problem. The owner was already breaking the rules by having too many dogs. And if you keep seeing them there, then they are bringing a known dog-aggressive dog back to a dog park. That’s not the dog’s fault, it’s the idiot owner.

Don’t blame the breed, blame the owner.

Hooray Rachel for saying it. Listen people, she’s pit owner and lover!!! It’s how the owner handles the dog and the decisions the owner makes.

I have large dogs (goldens) and the biggest problems I’ve had have been with other types of breeds, some large and some quite small. I’ve had problems with a lab, a ridgeback and a Boston terrorist. I don’t do dog parks for this reason.

LYNNAE – you’ve fallen for the locking jaw crap. It’s not true. Pits have strong jaws but their jaws do not lock. It’s a pile of fear-mongering crap.

my father was one of the first six state troopers to start the k-9 program. i want to know how much history is in the state police muesum. i have alot of pictures. my father was v.w. hinton and his police dog was named “rex”

As the K-9 units have been a significant part of the Virginia State Police’s history, I am sure the museum at State Police Headquarters in Richmond would have at least an exhibit dedicated to the program.

Also, last fall I recall hearing about an exhibit focusing on the State Police at the Museum of Culpeper History, but I’m not sure if they are still hosting that exhibit.

To Turandot, you obviously have no understanding of how police K-9 units operate. The dogs are with their assigned officers practically 24/7. The dogs live with the officer and become a member of the officer’s family. NO officer would view his or her K-9 PARTNER as an “expendable commodity,” anymore than he/she would view a human partner as an “expendable commodity.” The officers are NOT willing to “sacrafice the pet at command.” The loss of a K-9 partner deeply affects the officer, and members of his/her family who have also developed an attachment to the K-9.

If you think officers are willing to “sacrafice” their partners, you’ve been watching too many movies/TV shows. In fact, many, if not most, police K-9s are used in search and rescue efforts and drug detection. K-9s are used because of their unique talents, particularly their keen sense of smell, to assist with jobs that carry a significant amount of risk – to both human and K-9 officers.

In fact, in Virginia, a 9 year-old girl started a charity whose sole purpose was to provide bulletproof vests, and other safety equipment, to K-9 officers. This effort has been embraced by K-9 officers, who want to ensure their partners’ safety even with limited tax dollars available within their police departments.
